The perfect hideaway halfway between Kaikoura and Christchurch
Situated above the old Port Robinson and on the site of the original Harbour Master’s house ‘The Port’ is a secluded coastal retreat commanding views north up the east coast of Canterbury to the Kaikoura peninsular and east to the horizon, the rising sun and the start of a new day.
The house has three bedrooms with king size beds, one of which is able to be split into two singles. Each has its own bathroom, full linen and towel supply and bath robes. With French doors opening out onto a wide verandas there is great indoor outdoor flow and easy access to all parts of the home hence no problems for wheelchair access. There is a Fischer log burner to keep you warm in cooler times. We have a two night minimum stay, and a ‘no dog’ policy sorry.
The huge lounge giving spectacular views of the ocean and coast and has a large fireplace for warmth and atmosphere offering a great place for relaxing. The home is furnished with 20th century furniture and features New Zealand art throughout. Enjoy our peaceful coastal and country setting providing a unique boutique accommodation experience.
The Port’ has full internet broadband access, ‘Sky’ television and Vodafone mobile access, but has no landline telephone or Telecom reception. The property sits in a climatic pocket warmed by the sea air and is hence frost free, it is North and East facing so has sun all day. ‘The Port’ is extremely private and nobody is able to overlook you, is not near any road so there is no traffic noise. ‘The Port’ is not a home-stay as your Hosts live on an adjoining property.
‘The Port’ is a self cater cliff-top residence, it has a large organic vegetable garden and a flock of chickens producing free range eggs for your breakfast, which is complimentary. Water is filtered and purified so all water is safe. A full kitchen or outside BBQ give you two cooking options. Fresh meats can be made available from the local award winning butchery with notice, or your hosts, John and David can cater for you at an extra charge.
Situated half way between Christchurch and Kaikoura, Port Robinson is signposted from the towns of Cheviot (94 km north of Christchurch) and Dommet on SH1. There is a picturesque 11km drive from Cheviot to the Port

From the South: Travelling on SHW 1 when you reach Domett follow 'TOURIST DRIVE' signs. Right on to Hurunui Mouth Road for 4.6 Km take left fork up hill for 5 Km to Port Robinson Rd. this is a no exit road and we are No. 21
From the North: Travelling on SHW 1 when you reach Cheviot turn left on to Gore Bay Rd, drive to the coast where the road becomes Moody street through the Gore Bay settlement and up the hill where the road becomes Cathdral Road travel for 2.5 Km to Port Robinson Rd, this is a no exit road and we are No 21
The whole house which accommodates 3 couples is $500 per night with a two night minumim stay.

We are an hour from the whale watching centre of Kaikoura, one hour from the thermal region of Hanmer Springs and the wine growing area of Waipara just ½ hour drive south with award-winning winery restaurants.
The Hurunui River, just a few moments drive, is an excellent salmon and trout fishing river and whitebaiting at the mouth in season, the ocean just at the bottom of the cliff is a rich source of seafood.
A short drive will take you to Gore Bay, a wide, sweeping sandy bay with good surf, to the south is the wild stony beach of Manuka Bay giving great views south to Banks Peninsular. The main town of Cheviot is only 10 kms away where full services are available.
